OVERVIEW

The Mets selected Nate Dohm in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft and signed him for $797,500K, about $135K below the slot value for the No. 82 overall pick. A hard-throwing righty, Dohm is one of the most fascinating arms of the most recent Mets draft class.

Pitching behind first-round pick Jurrangelo Cijntje (the switch-pitcher) and second-round pick Khal Stephen in the Bulldog rotation, Dohm still shined — at least when he was on the mound.

The biggest concern with Dohm is health. He missed a significant portion of the 2024 season with a forearm strain. He missed about a month with the injury early in the season, came back for one start mid-year, was pulled after 12 pitches, and then missed another month. He made three appearances at the end of the season and went no more than two innings in any of them. He was still great in those outings, giving up no runs and just a single baserunner while punching out five in as many innings.

He only pitched in eight games, starting six of them. Through those 29 1/3 innings, the righty struck out 37 batters and walked four. In his collegiate career, split between Ball State and Mississippi State, Dohm holds a 3.93 ERA and 14-7 record in 40 games (11 started). Across his 112 1/3 collegiate innings, he struck out 142 batters, walked 42, and allowed 13 home runs (zero in 2024).

MLB Pipeline gave a 55-grade to Dohm’s fastball, noting the pitch has “explosive carry up in the strike zone.” His slider and curveball are also 55-grade pitches, giving him three above-average offerings. MLB Pipeline gives him a 40-grade changeup but notes the pitch has potential with a 55-grade control. He showed off that entire arsenal when he pitched in 2024, posting a 1.53 ERA and an absurd 37-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 2024 with Mississippi State.

2025 OUTLOOK

Dohm hasn’t pitched yet in professional ball, so it would be a surprise to see a college arm like Dom start anywhere lower than Single-A, even with his health concerns. He could start in High-A Brooklyn, though the Mets might prefer to ease him into pro ball in sunny, warm Florida rather than chilly New York. At the very least, Dohm will likely finish the 2025 campaign in Brooklyn and might even see Double-A Binghamton if he impresses, so long as he stays healthy.
