Why Martin Short Skipped SAG Awards 2025, & His Rep Shares It's Not Because of COVID!

Martin Short was unfortunately missing from the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday (February 23), where he ended up winning an acting award for his work as Oliver Putnam in Only Murders in the Building.

In addition, the cast won the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series award. Steve Martin was also not present to accept the award for their Hulu series, but Selena Gomez held down the fort!

Now, Martin has released a statement on his win, and his rep has also explained why he was missing.

Some believed that Martin was absent because he caught COVID after SNL50 last week.

However, his rep shared with Deadline that his absence from the SAGs was “due to a previous conflict in his schedule.”

In a statement, Martin said, “The honor of being in Only Murders In The Building is the most spectacular compliment anyone could be given. The honor of being awarded by your peers is even greater. Thank you so so much.”
