Riverhawks fly past Watervliet/Heatly in opening round

CORINTH, NY (NEWS10) -- It is win or go home for Section 2's basketball teams as the playoffs begin this week. In Class B Girls Basketball, the Corinth Riverhawks opened their postseason with a strong performance against Watervliet/Heatly, earning the 43-33 on their home court.

It was a low scoring game from the start, Watervliet/Heatly led 4-3 after the first quarter. Neither offense found its rhythm in the first half of the second quarter either, the Riverhawks held a 7-4 edge going into a timeout roughly midway through the frame.

Corinth got on a roll to end the first half, quickly building their advantage to 18-11 entering the break. To start the 3rd, the Riverhawks were soaring on offense, quickly extending their lead, led by Whitney Cameron who drained a 3 pointer just before the buzzer.

To start the final frame, Watervliet/Heatly made a push, closing the gap to 6 before the Riverhawks were able to put the game away. Another 3 pointer from Whitney was enough to stop the run and secure the victory for the Riverhawks.

With the win, Corinth advances to the quarterfinals on Saturday. The Riverhawks, the 8 seed in the tournament, will visit the number 1 team in Section 2's Class B playoffs, Voorheesville. The quarterfinal is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
