Tamarac edges Corinth in Class B opening round

CORINTH, NY (NEWS10) -- A Class B battle between Corinth and Tamarac to open the Section 2 Boys Basketball playoffs on Tuesday night saw the visiting Bengals, the #9 seed in the tournament, beat the #8 Riverhawks 59-55 in a back-and-forth contest.

The Bengals jumped out to the early lead, starting the contest on a 7-0 run. The Riverhawks were quick to strike back, starting with a triple from Ashton Wright. Tamarac was able to maintain their edge through the end of the first quarter, ending the frame with a 15-11 lead. The second quarter saw back-and-forth play, a dunk followed by an And-1 from Tamarac's Jacob Price led the Bengals to hold a 4-point edge going into the locker rooms.

After the break Tamarac maintained the momentum. The Bengals were able to grow the lead into the double digits during the 3rd quarter, however the Riverhawks were able to cut the deficit down to 8 going into the final frame.

In the fourth, Corinth stormed back, led by Brydin Stone, the Riverhawks got right back in the game. The Bengals were not about to let the lead get away that easily, a triple from Sam Kuiken helped Tamarac maintain their advantage. After back-and-forth scores in the final minutes, Tamarac led by 4 points with 20 seconds to play. Stone converted on a lay-in to make it a 1 score contest with 13 seconds to play, however made free throws allowed Tamarac to secure the victory.

With the win, Tamarac advances to the Section 2 Class B quarterfinals on Saturday. Their next game will be played at Guilderland High School at 4 p.m.
