Person shot after cops fire rounds on Far South Side near Indiana border

One person was injured during a police shooting Friday afternoon on Far South Side.

An ambulance was sent to the scene, in the 3800 block of East 112th Street, the East Side neighborhood, about 1:30 p.m., according to Chicago Fire spokesperson Larry Merritt. Merritt did not know their condition.

A knife-wielding man apparently prompted the shooting which happened along a trail, according to police scanner traffic of the incident.

The Cook County Forest Preserve Police called it in, saying someone was being chased by a man with a knife.

“On the trail he’s got a knife he’s walking towards me!” an officer who went to check it out told dispatchers.

“Shots fired - shots fired by the police!” he yelled. “He’s coming on me again."

“Yeah, he’s on the ground” the officer said.

“Offender shot,” the dispatcher said.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) was on the scene and asked anyone with information to contact them.
