Dancing On Ice fans predicted ‘show axe’ after spotting major ‘clue’ ahead of final
DANCING On Ice fans are claiming they thought the show would be axed after spotting a clue earlier this series.
Earlier today it was revealed that the current series of the skating competition ‘could be its last’ amid struggling ratings.
And those watching at home think they worked that out already after judges Jayne, 67, and Christopher, 66, announced they were going on their final tour.
On top of that the pair will be skating for the last time on Dancing On Ice during the final.
Christopher told The Sun: “This will be our last live skate on here on Dancing On Ice because we’re doing our final tour this year.
“So once we’ve finished our last skate on the tour we won’t be performing again.”
Discussing new reports the show could be axed, one person wrote: “Next year will be it’s 20th anniversary, I thought we’d get one more series, but with Torvil and Dean stepping back & retiring from ice skating I thought this year might be the end.”
A second added: “I thought even before this series started that this was the last one due to Torvil and Dean retiring from the ice.”
While a third mused: “With Torvill & Dean retiring, maybe the time is right.”
A source told The Mirror: “There are very real fears this is the end of the road for Dancing on Ice. It’s had a good run for nearly 20 years and has a very loyal set of viewers who really love it but the sad truth is there’s just not enough of them.
“We need bums on seats but the ratings have dropped to a point where it’s difficult to justify the cost.”
This year, 2.9million tuned in for the launch of the show, compared to 12million in its heyday, and by the fifth episode that number had decreased to 2.4million.
An ITV spokeswoman continued to tell the publication: “The Dancing on Ice team is fully concentrating on the much anticipated series finale this coming Sunday and therefore no decision has been made.”
