British Judoka in Action: Grand Prix Upper Austria, Podgorica & Portimão European Cups 2025

British judoka will take to the mats across Europe this weekend, competing in three major events: the Grand Prix Upper Austria, the Podgorica Senior European Cup, and the Portimão Junior European Cup.

Grand Prix Upper Austria

The biggest event of the weekend is the Grand Prix Upper Austria, set to take place in Linz from March 7th to 9th, with five British judoka set to compete.

Olympian Emma Reid (Redbridge JC) will enter the -78kg category, marking her first IJF World Tour appearance since May 2024, where she claimed bronze. She’ll be looking to build on that success as she kicks off her competition year.

Joining Reid are fellow World Class Performance Programme athletes Chloe Link (Relentless Judo) and Summer Shaw (Camberley Judo Club), competing in the -57kg and -48kg categories, respectively.

Representing GB in the men’s categories are Oliver Short (Edinburgh Judo) in the -73kg division and Luke Davies (Ealing Judo Club) in the -81kg who will be making his Grand Prix debut.

Podgorica Senior European Cup

A larger British squad will compete at the Podgorica Senior European Cup, with 12 judoka entered across seven weight categories.

Leah Hasler (Newbury Judo Club) is the sole female representative, taking on the -48kg division. In the men’s squad, Ayoub Dafallah (Palavani Judo Club) will compete in the -60kg category.

The -66kg category features a trio of Brits: Charlie Young (Ryecroft Judokwai), Samuel Hall (Ryecroft Judokwai), and Lewis Fryer (Rush Judo), while another trio in Ethan Nairne (Bradley Stoke Judokwai), Irakli Goginashvili (Palavani Judo Club) who isfresh off a bronze medal at the Malaga Junior European Cup, and Tommy Jackson (East Yorkshire Judo Academy) will compete in the -73kg division.

Jamal Petgrave (Westcroft Judo Club) remains the lone British entry in the -90kg category. In the -100kg division, Oliver Barratt (Dragons Academy), who recently claimed bronze at the Warsaw European Open, will be joined by Max Gregory (Drake Judo Club).

Rounding out the squad, Wesley Greenidge (Enfield Judo Club) will compete in the +100kg category.

Portimão Junior European Cup

To round off the international events this weekend, nine British judoka will compete at the Portimão Junior European Cup across eight weight categories.

Joshua Chrisp (Blyth Juno Michi) will represent in the -66kg category, while Peter Davies (Ealing Judo Club) will compete in the -73kg. Davies’ clubmate, Corey O’Neal Narcis (Ealing Judo Club), will take on the -81kg, and Cameron Hickey (Core Judo) will fight in the -90kg.

The regular duo of Daniel Ede (Westcroft Judo) and James Weller-Henry (Budokwai) will enter the +100kg field.

For the women, Maddy Kissenisky (East Yorkshire Judo Academy) will compete in the -52kg, Madeleine Birri (Ealing Judo Club) in the -57kg, and Anya Hassan (Middlesbrough Judo) in the -78kg.
