Funeral arrangements finalized for former Houston mayor, U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner
HOUSTON (KIAH) — Funeral arrangements have been made for former Houston mayor and U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner.
Turner died just two months after taking office in Congress and hours after attending President Donald Trump's address before Congress. After being taken and released from a hospital, Turner died in his Washington D.C. apartment Wednesday morning. He was 70.
Turner will lie in state at City Hall in Houston on Tuesday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Then his body will be moved to the Texas Capitol from noon Thursday until noon Friday at the Rotunda.
The funeral service is scheduled to be on Saturday, March 15 at the Church Without Walls, located at 5725 Queenston Boulevard in northwest Houston. Dr. Ralph West will be the pastor conducting the service. The service will be livestreamed.
A reception will follow. The burial will be a private event.
Sylvester’s pallbearers will be members of his former security detail – Officers Jack Bailey, Myron Brady, Will Laster, Ingrid Pinzon, Paul Powell, and Rodney Tyler.
