Captain of container ship that ploughed into oil tanker carrying US jet fuel sparking fireball blaze is RUSSIAN
THE captain of the cargo ship which crashed into an oil tanker in the North Sea is a Russian national, the vessel’s owner has said.
Shipping company said the rest of the Solong crew were Russian and Filipino.
It comes after cops said a man has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with Monday’s horror crash off the coast of Hull.
Humberside Police said a 59-year-old is in custody to allow enquiries to take place.
Cops are continuing to speak to those involved to understand what happened after the vessel collided with US-flagged tanker Stena Immaculate.
One crew member was declared missing before a search was called off.
The force is working alongside the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.
The tanker was carrying jet fuel.
