SWEDISH beauty tech company Foreo makes some bold claims about its new Luna 4 Hair device.

The brand claims that it’s “clinically proven to significantly increase hair thickness and reduce hair loss in just one month”.

We’ll see about that.

Foreo made a name for itself with a range of devices designed to tackle everything from clogged pores to inflammation for healthier-looking skin.

The Luna 4 Hair, however, is the brand’s first foray into hair care.

It’s essentially a very fancy scalp-massaging device that uses state-of-the-art technology to promote a healthier, less oily scalp, which in turn means stronger hair.

You can use the device on dry or wet hair to support the absorption of serums into hair follicles.

So, is it any good? Can Foreo match the expertise it’s shown with skin-tech devices with this new hair product?

We’ve used Foreo’s skincare tools before and jumped at the chance to see if it could recreate its successes in haircare.

Read on for our thoughts.

Pros:

  • 100% waterproof — easy to add to shower routine
  • Can be used with hair serums and conditioners
  • Easy to use with or without the Foreo app
  • Good battery life once fully charged
  • Easy to clean
  • Soothing on the scalp
  • Improvements were visible after one week
  • Good antibacterial properties, so feels very hygienic

Cons:

  • It’s not cheap

Rating: 8/10

How we tested the Foreo Luna 4 Hair

We were given the Foreo Luna 4 hair a week ahead of the official launch and used it in quite an intense way.

The device unclogs pores and improves circulation in blood vessels in the scalp with its silicone bristles, the brand’s T-Sonic massage tech, and red LED light therapy.

We did a scalp massage every day (sometimes twice a day) before writing this review.

We used it on wet hair during wash days and on dry hair every single day.

Foreo Luna 4 Hair Review: Quickfire Q&A

How much is the Foreo Luna 4 Hair? The device, plus a serum designed to be used alongside, is usually £235.90, but it’s currently on sale for £189.

Who’s it best for? Anyone who wants stronger, more luscious-looking hair. It can also help reduce dandruff.

What we loved: Our tester’s scalp was less itchy, and their hair felt thicker.

What we didn’t: Its price tag makes it an investment.

Foreo Luna 4 Hair review: The Nitty Gritty

First impressions

The Foreo Luna 4 Hair is easy to use, feels very comfortable on the scalp, and even after just a week, started showing small scale differences to the thickness and shine of my hair.

It also decreased the itchiness that our reviewer sometimes experienced on their scalp.

According to Foreo, users report thicker, shinier hair.

More specifically, Foreo claims the device can “reduce dandruff by 24%” and “reduce oil build-up on the scalp by 49%”.

Its tests also show a reduction in hair loss by up to 41%.

Does it deliver?

To get the most out of the Foreo Luna 4 Hair, download the Foreo app and register your device.

You can use the device without the app, but you need it to access certain treatments.

The app also helps control the timings of these treatments as you move from one section of the scalp to another and automatically stops the device when the treatment has ended.

For simple use without the app, turn the device on using the power button on the side, and it will light up red to show that the LED system is on. It will also immediately start vibrating.

This is handy if you’re using it in the shower and don’t want to mess around with wet hands and your phone.

We got used to placing the device on the scalp and then pressing the power button to get started straight away.

Press the device firmly against your head and, starting from the front, make tight, circular motions on the scalp, slowly working your way from the front to the right, then the back and left until you’re back where you started.

You can do this on wet or dry hair and should aim for four to eight minutes for your full scalp.

Use the Foreo Luna 4 Hair on wet hair to enhance the absorption of conditioners and treatments.

You can adjust the time the device stays on ‘work mode’ and tailor the intensity of the T-Sonic vibrations and red LED light settings via the app.

We preferred the highest settings for both dry and wet, as it felt like a proper scalp massage; it also meant any hair products were totally absorbed.

There are six levels to choose from, so play around until you find the right fit for you.

Using the highest settings on dry hair meant we could feel a tingling sensation for about ten minutes after the scalp massage finished, which might not be for everyone, but it didn’t bother us.

We also noticed that unlike the other Foreo products we’ve used, we didn’t feel the heat as much from the red LED light.

This could be because the light is less intense or because hair provides a level of protection.

Overall, the device felt very comfortable on the scalp and hair, and it is very easy to use.

There are three treatments accessed through the app that work on specific results.

Two are free, but the third is paid for by purchasing one of Foreo’s monthly ‘Premium’ care plans, costing either £2.99 or £6.99 a month depending on which you go for.

There’s a four-minute scalp massage that boosts blood flow, encouraging oxygen and nutrients to reach follicles more easily.

The eight-minute ‘Overall hair repair’ combats hair thinning and breakage. It works by clearing scalp buildup and unclogging follicles, promoting thicker, stronger hair growth.

Finally, the seven-minute treatment for ‘Hair loss control’ — the treatment you need a monthly subscription to use — is designed to combat signs of hair loss on wider parting lines and visible shedding around the scalp in general, working on specific areas that are thinning.

All three treatments come with a guide to follow in real time, which shows you how to break up the sections on the scalp as you go.

There’s also a ‘mirror mode’ which uses your phone’s camera to allow you to watch what you’re doing.

Foreo Luna 4 Hair review: The Verdict

After just a few weeks of using the Luna 4 Hair, we can feel a difference in the thickness of our hair.

Our reviewer said specifically that it felt less thin around their parting.

They also noticed a nice shine towards the end of the week on the lengths of their hair.

The other difference we noticed is a reduction in scalp itchiness.

We’re looking forward to seeing how the Foreo Luna 4 Hair continues to support our hair and scalp.
