Inside the £540K jewellery shopping Wills has splashed out on for Kate – including £121k Cartier necklace & £20k watch
SINCE Kate Middleton started dating Prince William she has been given an enviable collection of dazzling diamonds and spectacular necklaces.
And according to an expert, the future king, 42, may have given his beautiful wife around £540,000 worth of jewellery.
And this is on top of Kate’s staggering wider royal jewellery collection worth £68million.
Of course, being married to the heir to the throne has some perks when it comes to birthdays and Christmas presents.
Here are just some of the sentimental pieces William has splashed out on for his beloved wife…
Princess Diana’s engagement ring – £300,000
Passed down to Kate, 43, by William upon their engagement in 2010, Princess Diana’s engagement ring encapsulates both history and beauty, making it Kate’s most iconic piece of jewellery.
Stephanie Tyler, jewellery expert at Purely Diamonds, said: “Diana’s engagement ring is truly a beautiful piece of jewellery. It’s a 12-carat oval cut Ceylon sapphire, set in 18-karat white gold and has an estimated value of £300,000 today.”
Green amethyst earrings – £2,000
To celebrate their first Christmas together as a married couple in 2011, Prince William gave Kate a pair of £2,000 green amethyst earrings.
They were designed by Kiki McDonough, whose designs we’ve seen being worn by Kate over the years.
Amethyst and diamond earrings – £2,000
Another Kiki McDonough pair of earrings we’ve seen Kate wear was on St Patrick’s Day 2019.
The spectacular set was given to Kate after Princess Charlotte was born, and is said to be worth £2,000.
It featured green amethyst, tourmaline, and diamond stones – and is certainly fit for royalty.
Moon necklace – £1,070
In January 2020 Catherine visited Ely and Caerau Children’s Centre in Cardiff.
Over her black roll neck she wore a gold coin necklace engraved with the initials of her three children’s names – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – along with a trio of stars.
The item came from female British jewellery designer, Daniella Draper and is thought to have been a birthday present from Prince William after her 38th birthday.
With a £1,070 price tag (at the time), the necklace didn’t come cheap – but she sparked a trend of similar necklaces and has since worn it more than a handful of times.
One of the recent times was in her heart warming video alongside Prince William and their children, announcing that she had finished her chemotherapy treatment.
Eternity band – £1,500
Kate’s eternity ring was gifted to her by William following the birth of their son and future king, Prince George.
She is often seen wearing it in place of her iconic engagement ring.
Stephanie commented “There is a lot of speculation around Kate wearing her eternity ring in place of her engagement ring.
“However, from a jeweller’s perspective, it is most likely that this ring is more practical for everyday wear.
“Unlike her engagement ring, this eternity ring only has an estimated value of £1,500.”
Promise ring – £2,000
Kate’s promise ring is rumoured to be the first piece of jewellery William gifted to her while they were courting at St Andrew’s, making it one of her most iconic and sentimental pieces to date.
Stephanie shared: “Kate has been spotted wearing her promise ring recently, and it’s an extremely beautiful yet understated piece of jewellery.
“Featuring garnets of William and Kate’s birthstones, its estimated worth is around £2,000.”
Cartier hooped earrings and necklace – £121,000
Back during the 2012 Olympics, Kate dazzled in a blue Stella McCartney dress at an exhibition about the Games at the National Portrait Gallery.
Casually, the royal added a £50,000 Cartier Trinity Necklace with an 18-carat chain.
The 18-carat chain has pavé diamonds as well as three intertwined circles of pink, yellow and white gold.
Kate rewore it again in 2014, at a Creativity is GREAT Britain’s event in New York, where it added some pizzazz to a black roll-neck jumper.
The Princess of Wales was later seen wearing Cartier earrings in 2016 at a SportsAid’s 40th anniversary dinner at Kensington Palace, and it was thought the set – necklace and earrings – was worth £121,000.
While it was speculated she received the jewellery from Prince William for her 30th birthday, a St James’s Palace spokesman said of the necklace: “It’s a personal piece which she’s had for some time.
Cartier watch – £20,000
Prince William gifted Kate a beautiful Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch for their third wedding anniversary.
The beautiful piece bears a resemblance to both his own and the one worn by his late mother, Princess Diana.
Stephanie commented: “Cartier is synonymous with the Royal family, with many of its members owning multiple pieces of the coveted jewellery, including Kate.”
Prince William's ‘awful’ gift for Princess Kate that ‘didn’t go down well’
WHILE many of William's beautiful gifts have been appreciated by Kate, not all of them have been welcomed.
The heir revealed the “awful” gift he bought for his wife and said “she’ll never let him forget it”.
Whilst making an appearance on former England striker Peter Crouch‘s podcast on BBC Radio Five Live, Wills sheepishly admitted that he previously gave Kate “a pair of binoculars”.
After Peter confessed to giving his own wife Abbey Clancy a raincoat for her birthday three years in a row, a chuckling William said: “I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once – she’s never let me forget that.
“That was early on in the courtship that was – I think that sealed the deal.
“It didn’t go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars, it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
