‘I can play…’: MS Dhoni puts a stop to air about retirement from IPL

MS Dhoni is without a doubt one of the greatest cricketers the game has seen so far, and is gearing up for another adventure as he will play for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. Just like every other season since his retirement from international cricket, Dhoni’s future in IPL is the biggest topic of discussion for the fans since the schedule of tournament was announced.

Ahead of CSK’s season-opening clash against Mumbai Indians (MI), MS Dhoni stated that he could play for as long as he wishes to, as that it his franchise.

“I can play for as long as I want for CSK. That’s my franchise. Even if I’m in a wheelchair, they’ll drag me,” he said in a chat on JioHotstar ahead of the clash against Mumbai Indians.

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad had earlier shared some insights into the ability of Dhoni to keep playing for the team at such an age, hoping for him to perform ‘crucial knocks’ for his team in the IPL.

“A lot of new players have joined the team and sometimes they struggle to strike the ball as good as he is striking it right now. So, definitely it inspires a lot of us including myself,” Gaikwad told the media on the eve of CSK’s opening IPL match against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.

“So, whatever he is doing at the age of 43, I think it is remarkable. We have certain strengths that we have been following since the last two years. So, I think nothing much really changes and hopefully he will continue to deliver those crucial knocks for us,” he added.

Chennai Super Kings will begin their IPL campaign as they face Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium Chennai, with the match set to begin 7:30 PM IST.
