Luigi Mangione to be executed in CEO murder case? Here's what Pam Bondi-led Department of Justice has directed prosecutors to do

0
Luigi Mangione, 26, is facing the death penalty for the alleged premeditated murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The charge was announced by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who stated that Thompson’s assassination was a shocking, cold-blooded act. The federal government, in alignment with President Trump's agenda to deter violent crime, will pursue capital punishment. Although Mangione also faces charges in Manhattan state court, an indictment has been secured by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office. Since New York state abolished the death penalty in 2004, it is unclear how the federal pursuit of capital punishment will affect the proceedings in state court. A federal jury’s approval is necessary for Mangione’s execution. The decision followed lobbying from the insurance industry.
