Lafayette filmmaker debuts new documentary on national television
NEW ORLEANS, La. (KLFY) -- Lafayette-based film director Cory St. Ewart announced the national premiere of the new documentary, Musique(s)!.
The film is set to premiere today on the TV5MONDE USA channel at 9 p.m. CST.
Coming off a sold out screening at the New Orleans French Film Festival, the 20-minute documentary featured six renowned Louisiana-based musicians who sing in French and Creole, including Grammy-winning musicians such as Louis Michot ,an Acadiana native. The documentary shared the stories, performances, and interviews behind the musicians who took place in Nous Foundation's project with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress to document and celebrate Louisiana roots music sung in French and Creole today.
The documentary will feature an original music score album entitled Musique(s)! with 12 recordings by the musicians which was unveiled on March 26 at a reception held at the Library of Congress, with performances by Leyla McCalla and Louis Michot.
Nous Foundation will also open an exhibit around the project on May 7 at their new cultural space which will open at 602 Toulouse St in the French Quarter.
