NOVATO
Police link teens to
Hamilton shooting
Novato police arrested two teenage suspects Tuesday in connection with a shooting on April 9 in the Hamilton area.
Police described the attack, which injured an 18-year-old man, as a gang crime.
The suspects, ages 15 and 16, were taken into custody when detectives and county probation officers executed search warrants at homes in the Bay Vista apartment complex in the Hamilton neighborhood.
Authorities did not identify the suspects because they are minors. They were booked into the Marin County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted murder and participation in a street gang.
The shooting happened near Nave Drive and State Access Road. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his back, police said.
MILL VALLEY
Authorities plan
evacuation drill
Police are looking for hundreds of cars to create a traffic jam on Saturday morning.
The Mill Valley Police Department and 14 other police and fire agencies plan to conduct a wildfire and emergency evacuation drill. The exercise will demonstrate how public safety agencies and residents can evacuate homes on the hills above Miller Avenue and Throckmorton Ridge, said Mill Valley police Chief Rick Navarro.
As of Monday, 100 residents had signed up to participate, he said. At least 400 cars are needed to simulate the congestion expected in a fire or earthquake.
Police ask drivers to line up on Miller Avenue and Camino Alto by 8:30 a.m. A public safety fair will be held after the drill, starting at 9:30 a.m., in the Mill Valley Middle School parking lot.
Registration is at cityofmillvalley.gov/778/Evacuation-Drill.
SAN RAFAEL
Suspect accused of
vandalizing church
A San Rafael man has been charged with vandalizing Saint Raphael Church on Fifth Avenue.
The crime on April 11 caused an estimated $550 in damage in the plaza, San Rafael police Lt. Scott Eberle said. Investigators reviewed surveillance video footage and recognized the alleged vandal, Eberle said. By then, the suspect was already in jail in connection with a separate assault case.
Jonathan Cunningham Tillson, 31, was scheduled to be arraigned in the vandalism case on Tuesday but refused to attend the hearing, according to court staff. Judge Kelly Simmons delayed proceedings until Friday.
Tillson is being held without a bail amount at the Marin County Jail.
