‘He Offered Me a Gift from His Late Father…’: Sachin Tendulkar recalls Virat Kohli’s heartfelt gesture upon his Test retirement

Former India legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to his social media and posted a heartfelt message for Virat Kohli following his retirement from Test cricket. Kohli announced his retirement through an instagram post, which left every cricket fan in suprise.

Taking to his social media, Sachin Tendulkar made a heartfelt post for Kohli, As you retire from Tests, I’m reminded of your thoughtful gesture 12 years ago, during my last Test. You offered to gift me a thread from your late father. It was something too personal for me to accept, but the gesture was heartwarming and has stayed with me ever since.” Sachin wrote

“While I may not have a thread to offer in return, please know that you carry my deepest admiration and very best wishes. Your true legacy, Virat, lies in inspiring countless young cricketers to pick up the sport. What an incredible Test career you have had! You have given Indian cricket so much more than just runs – you have given it a new generation of passionate fans and players. Congratulations on a very special Test career.” the post read

Kohli scored 9,230 runs in 123 matches, including 30 centuries and 30 half-centuries at an average of 46.85. He also became the first batter to score four double hundreds in consecutive Test series. He is also the most successful Test captain as he won 40 matches out of 65 games, losing only 17 games.

Virat Kohli will continue playing the one-day format, he previously retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 world cup.
