Afghanistan Embassy in Tehran suspends consular services
The Afghanistan Embassy in Tehran has temporarily suspended consular services, including passport issuance and legal documents, citing unspecified reasons.
The Afghanistan Embassy in Tehran, currently under the control of the Interim administration, announced on Saturday, May 24, the temporary suspension of all passport issuance and renewal services, as well as the provision of legal documents.
In an official statement posted on the embassy’s verified account on the social media platform X, it was noted that services such as marriage and divorce certificates, birth registration, legal guarantees, and police clearance certificates would also be halted until further notice.
The embassy urged Afghan citizens residing in Iran to refrain from visiting the consular office until a new announcement is made. No official reason was provided for the sudden suspension.
This is not the first time such services have been halted. In the past, similar suspensions were reported due to overwhelming crowds and an increase in the number of returnees from Iran.
The move comes at a time when many Afghan migrants in Iran rely heavily on the embassy for identity verification and legal documentation.
The suspension of these services is likely to create serious challenges for Afghans waiting for the renewal of their documents or needing vital paperwork for residency, work, or education.
It remains unclear how long the disruption will last. Afghanistan’s community leaders in Iran have called for immediate solutions and greater transparency from the embassy to support vulnerable migrants dependent on these essential services.
