Candlelight vigil to mark 15th anniversary of Kyron Horman's disappearance

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A candlelight vigil is set to be held Sunday night, marking nearly 15 years since the unsolved disappearance of 7-year-old Kyron Horman.

Taking place in the last location he was seen, Skyline Elementary School, the event will be hosted by Kyron's mother, Desiree Young. The candlelight vigil will start at 6:45 p.m.

Organizers say family will be sharing stories, photos and videos with the community, all with "the mission to bring him home."

Kyron vanished the morning of June 4, 2010, from Skyline after his school’s science fair. He was last seen with with stepmother - known then as Terri Horman - who has continually denied her involvement.

What began as a missing persons case eventually expanded into one of the largest investigations in Oregon history. To this day, there have been no signs of Kyron and no arrests made in the case.

However, in early May, local law enforcement announced they are in the midst of re-examining the case with help from the FBI, noting they have been working to digitize the case files for the past year.

“This means scanning and documenting thousands of pages of reports, photos and evidence,” according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

They add when that process is complete, the file will be re-examined by the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), who will then review the evidence and offer recommendations on how to proceed in the case based on “patterns from similar historic and current cases nationwide.”

MCSO noted they will also meet with Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez to assess next steps.

Since this remains an active and ongoing case, a $50,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the resolution of Kyron’s disappearance, according to officials.
