Iran blames US for Israeli Airstrikes, dismisses Nuclear Talks
Iran blames the U.S. for facilitating Israel’s airstrikes, which killed 78, and dismisses upcoming nuclear talks as meaningless.
Following Israel’s extensive airstrikes on Iran, which resulted in the deaths of 78 individuals, including senior officials, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghai, dismissed further nuclear negotiations with the United States as “meaningless.” Despite this, he refrained from officially canceling the upcoming talks.
Reports indicate that the next round of nuclear discussions between the U.S. and Iran was scheduled for Sunday, June 15, in Oman. However, the aftermath of the Israeli attacks has significantly altered the diplomatic atmosphere between the two nations.
In the early hours of Friday, Israel’s airstrikes targeted Iran’s key nuclear infrastructure, including the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, which was completely destroyed. This attack was part of Israel’s broader strategy to cripple Iran’s nuclear program and delay its development of nuclear weapons.
According to Reuters, the direct objective of Israel’s surprise attacks was to severely disrupt Iran’s nuclear capabilities and extend the timeline for Tehran’s potential weaponization. However, experts suggest that the scale and nature of the strikes, as well as Israeli political rhetoric, may signal a longer-term goal of destabilizing the regime in Iran.
In a UN Security Council emergency meeting, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, revealed that 78 Iranians, including top officials, had died, while over 320 others were injured. Iravani also blamed the U.S. for enabling these attacks, labeling Washington complicit in facilitating Israeli actions.
The Iranian government has made it clear that it holds the U.S. responsible for these actions, accusing Washington of directly contributing to Israel’s military aggression. The attacks have escalated the ongoing tension between Iran, Israel, and the U.S., with no immediate resolution in sight.
As diplomatic channels appear to be narrowing, experts warn that further military escalation may follow, especially if diplomatic efforts remain stalled. With the region on high alert, the international community continues to call for calm and the resumption of dialogue to prevent further bloodshed and destabilization.
