Your Daily Streaming Digest For June 17, 2025
Tuesdays are perfect for low-key streaming.
With Sunday Scaries and Manic Mondays behind us, we’re finally in the perfect headspace to give something new a try, and luckily, today’s premieres are likely to scratch your latest “out-of-the-box” itch. From magic-comedy mash-ups to biopics and beyond, here’s what you need to know in streaming today!
Live from your couch: Magic Lover
Streamers have had no problem taking the comedy special baton from cable and satellite, but that has now broadened to specials that blur the lines between comedy, theater, and magic, with the likes of Derek DelGauido’s In & Of Itself and now Justin Willman’s Magic Lover.
Willman’s broad career includes talk and late night show appearances, hosting credits on a slew of food competition shows, including Cupcake Wars, Baking Impossible, and Sugar Rush, as well as his own series Magic For Humans and The Magic Prank Show with Justin Willman which he hosts and executive produced for Netflix. This latest special puts him center-stage in a family-friendly performance that features audience interaction.
The perfect Pride documentary: Sally
A new film dedicated to America’s first female astronaut, Sally Ride, examines her personal and professional life, including interviews with her partner of 27 years, former Women’s Tennis Association player, Tam O’Shaughnessy. The two kept their relationship out of the public eye until Ride’s death in 2012 from pancreatic cancer, and O’Shaughnessy now serves as the executive director of the Sally Ride Science non-profit in San Diego.
The documentary, which debuted earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, arrives to Hulu and Disney+ following buzz around government DEI-rollbacks that resulted in reported changes to the NASA public-facing website. It’s a timely and meaningful look at the complicated journey of this historical American hero.
Notable anniversaries – Finding Dory
Everyone’s favorite blue tang fish, Dory, is having a big anniversary today as her Finding Nemo spin-off film turns nine. A tale of family, acceptance, and neurodiversity, brought to life by legendary comedienne Ellen Degeneres, you can relive the magic to commemorate the occasion on Disney+.
