Anne Burrell, Known for 'Worst Cooks in America', Dies at 55
Anne Burrell, known as the host of Worst Cooks in America on Food Network, has died. The 55 year old chef died on the morning of Tuesday, June 17 at her home in Brooklyn, New York, per a release obtained by PEOPLE.
Her family wrote in a statement, "Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal."
The chef is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she wed in 2021 in upstate New York, his son and her stepson, Javier, and her children, Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas. She is also survived by her mother, Marlene, her sister, Jane, and her brother, Ben.
Burrell made her first television appearance in 2005 as a sous chef on Iron Chef America. Burrell then became a notable fan-favorite, making future appearances in a slew of Food Network shows, including Emmy-nominated series Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, Beat Bobby Flay, Chef Wanted With Anne Burrell, Worst Cooks in America, and more. Her most recent competition series, House of Knives, aired in March 2025. Burrell was recognized on television for her spiky white hair, bold personality, and sharp culinary skills.
"Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring," a spokesperson from Food Network told Page Six. "Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
Just five days ago Burrell posted a smiling photo on Instagram in Brooklyn, New York. She additionally posted an Instagram photo of her and friend Franklin Becker, a Top Chef Masters star, dining at Soho House.
