Beloved Ohio Restaurant Permanently Closing After 65 Years
Sixty-five years is a long time to do anything, let alone make sure a restaurant is up and running. Once a restaurant has been in business even a couple years, that place has already developed a tight-knit relationship with the community. So, for a restaurant that's been in business for more than six decades, one can only imagine what it feels like to actually lose that place from the community.
But, sometimes, it's just time to close one chapter and start another. It's worth noting, too, that the restaurant business is a crowded and competitive one. According to Food Industry, as of 2023, there were a 749,000 restaurants in the United States, counting fast food, casual dining, and fine dining spots. They add that before the pandemic, there were "more than 1 million restaurants operating in the United States."
Now, a local, beloved restaurant that has been in business for around 65 years is closing its doors.
Bishop's Restaurant in Wooster, OH, has permanently closed. The restaurant took to social media on June 12 to state that their final day would be the following Saturday, on June 14. Yelp also states the restaurant is now closed.
"It's with a heavy heart that we have to announce that Bishop's will be closing after this Saturday, June 14," the post from owner Brittany Andriessen states.
"I came into this with a dream and a vision, one that my staff carried and executed perfectly," Andriessen adds. "From sweating to death working the line in the kitchen, to hustling through a packed dining room on a Friday night, each and every member of this team has bled Bishop's for the last eighteen months. From the slow days, the questionable days where the future was uncertain, and the days where we were so busy we couldn't see over the weeds. We loved every single second."
According to the Wooster Daily Record, via Yahoo, the restaurant first opened in 1959, so Andriessen was its most recent owner. She ended the post on social media stating, "Thank you so very much for an amazing adventure. Peace, love and onion rings," with a red heart emoji.
