28 Years Later 'Alpha' Chi Lewis-Parry Answers Everyone's 1 Big Question About The Film
28 Years Later actor Chi Lewis-Parry has spoken about his appearance in the new dystopian horror movie.
The new follow-up to Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later moves the story forward almost three decades, and introduces a new variant of the infected dubbed the Alphas, whose exposure to the rage virus has had a rather different physical effect on them.
One such Alpha is Samson, played by actor and former MMA fighter Chi, whose nude scenes in the film have already been generating a lot of conversation thanks to one eye-catching detail in particular.
During a new interview with Variety, Chi confirmed that the look of his character’s penis was actually achieved using prosthetics – and for good reason.
Referring to his then-12-year-old co-star Alfie Williams, he explained: “They were prosthetics. There’s a law that states, I think, because he’s a child, you’re allowed to have nudity but it has to be fake nudity. It was to protect him.”
Chi added: “And, as well, I’m really friendly and am always hugging people. I wouldn’t have been doing that if I was fully in the nip!”
Asked how true to life his scene-stealing prosthetic actually was, he quipped: “Well, I’m 6′ 8″. I’ll say no more!”
Danny Boyle previously told ComicBook.com: “Our intimacy coordinator [told us] that when you have a child of 12 present, all genitals, male and female, have to be fake. They can’t be real.”
“[The] Child Sex Offences Act would put me in prison if I allowed him [Alfie] to see real genitals,” he added with a laugh.
“So he has to look at absolutely false photo-real genitals, created by a prosthetics company.”
Since 28 Years Later’s release last week, Danny has been lifting the lid on more details about the film, including the real meaning behind that shocking ending and the reason he chose to shoot much of the action on an iPhone camera.
A sequel, once again featuring Alfie Williams as Spike, was shot back-to-back with 28 Years Later, and is slated for release in January.
28 Years Later is in cinemas now.
