‘American Idol’ winner Jamal Roberts to join Brandy and Monica on ‘The Boy Is Mine’ tour
Reigning American Idol winner Jamal Roberts just scored a monumental gig — joining pop and R&B icons Brandy and Monica on their joint headlining The Boy Is Mine tour.
The 27-year-old gospel and R&B singer from Meridian, Miss., won Season 23 of ABC's reality TV show on May 18 against country singer John Foster. In doing so, Roberts became the first Black man to win American Idol since Ruben Studdard 22 years prior. "I'm anointed. I know how to use it. I know how to tap in," Roberts told Gold Derby after his victory. Since then, his debut single, "Heal," soared to the top of the iTunes chart and he performed with Kirk Franklin at the 2025 BET Awards.
This is the first co-headlining tour for Brandy and Monica, aptly named after their Grammy-winning hit, "The Boy Is Mine," which became 1998's best-selling single and reigned atop Billboard's Hot 100 chart for an impressive 13 weeks.
“This really is a full-circle moment,” said Brandy in a statement. “Monica and I coming together again isn’t just about the music — it’s about honoring where we came from and how far we’ve both come. ‘The Boy Is Mine’ was a defining chapter in R&B, and to share the stage all these years later is bigger than a reunion — it’s a celebration of growth, sisterhood, and the love our fans have given us from day one.”
Monica added, “The love that ‘The Boy Is Mine’ continues to receive means everything to me. This tour is a celebration of our history, our impact, and the fans who have grown with us. Brandy and I have been on our own unique journeys, and coming back together in this way is a reminder of the power of respect, strength, and real music. We’re giving the people what they’ve been asking for, and doing it with grace, love, and purpose. God’s timing perfectly aligned us.”
