Lockdown lifted at Lafayette High, SLCC, escaped prisoner recaptured
UPDATE, 8:20 a.m.: The lockdown has been lifted, according to LPSS.
The suspect is in custody, and LHS and ECA are now all clear. Students on buses are being transported to their school.
ORIGINAL STORY: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Lafayette High School and South Louisiana Community College are both on lockdown this morning due to an escaped prisoner in the area.
Law enforcement are on site in both locations. Both campuses will shelter in place until further notice after an inmate reportedly escaped from Ochsner UHC. Lafayette Police said the inmate was in the custody of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
According to a message from the University of Louisana Lafayette, the escaped inmate is a Black male, 6 feet 2 inches in height, wearing either an orange jumpsuit or a white t-shirt and gray sweat pants. He was last seen running west toward Lafayette High School.
An LPSS spokesperson said parents should not drop their students off to these campuses, as there is no check-in or check-out at this time. School buses are being rerouted to Cajun Field.
SLCC students are asked not to travel to the Lafayette campus until further notice.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
