Wayward Season 2: Does The Netflix Show Have A Future? Here's What We Know
This article contains minor spoilers for the Netflix series Wayward.
In a month of big hitters like House Of Guinness, Wednesday and Monster, Wayward has become something of a low-key hit for Netflix in the last few weeks.
Created by Taskmaster and Feel Good star Mae Martin, the Canadian series centres around a mysterious institution for troubled teens, with Toni Collette at her unsettling best as the academy’s head teacher.
Since it began streaming in September, Wayward has been consistently hovering around the top of Netflix’s list of most-watched shows in plenty of territories, with fans who’ve already binged all eight episodes curious about the show’s future.
If that sounds familiar, here’s what we can tell you about the future of the thriller series...
Will Wayward get a season 2 at Netflix?
So far, Netflix has made no official announcement about whether there’s a future for Wayward.
It’s probably worth noting that it is billed on Netflix as a “series”, rather than a “limited series” or “miniseries” as recent hits like Black Rabbit and Hostage, or 2024 offerings Baby Reindeer and One Day, were, which indicates that more could be coming if it proves popular enough.
And creator Mae has made it clear they’d definitely be up for more Wayward if the opportunity presented itself.
What has Mae Martin said about the possibility of Wayward season 2?
“I was told it was a miniseries, but there’s definitely more story to tell, I think,” they told TVLine (it’s currently listed as just a “series” on the platform). “We left all those characters in crisis, basically.”
“Hopefully it’s tied up enough that it’s satisfying to watch as a series,” Mae added, although their co-star Sarah Gadon then pointed out that “nothing’s tied up in a neat little bow”.
Oscar nominee Toni also said that she and her co-stars “talk about” reprising their roles in the future, insisting that Wayward is “endlessly intriguing”, so there are “so many places” that it could go in the future.
So basically, if you loved Wayward and want to see more of it, it might be an idea to tell everyone in your life to get streaming it about now…
