Thoughts on Wednesday, Wrexham and fans (9 replies)
Whilst confidence had taken a knock after a pretty shoddy outting at Cov, we actually started okay until the catalogue of errors that led to Wednesdays equaliser, now I’m no happy cIapper but I’m also no bed wetter either, the reaction of the entire stadium was pathetic imo we reacted like we had just gone 3-0 down. Why after a couple of bad away results did we lose faith so spectacularly? The second half starts and not much happens and Davies makes his subs, whilst I didn’t understand the Doyle one (Patrick Roberts had hardly played well) I will not accept that it’s a good idea to start booing the manager’s subs at any home game, yeah people are free to do as they please but I will be honest and say I felt embarrassed about it. We’re currently on the longest unbeaten home run in the country with a relatively inexperienced manager who has not done much wrong since he came in and has shown he is to be trusted and the fans created that level of toxicity towards him and in turn the team? I believe our home record is the key to this season, one of the main reasons for it being so good is that it’s been sold out for over a year now and we’ve made it a horrible place to come for away sides, against Wednesday we flipped it and turned it into a horrible place for our own players, if we were not booing subs and telling players to eff off we were sat in an uneasy silence and we nearly lost that home record in a game that despite not being brilliant we should’ve won!
Then it’s a few more days of negativity, online, in forums like this and that has been picked up on by the national media, I mean they would have done this regardless but when fans are also grumbling it allows them to make it an even bigger issue than it needs to be. And what do we see on Friday? a massive overreaction to the 11 he picked, would I have picked that team? Absolutely not! But we’re struggling with injuries right now, he sees them every single day and has all the information at his disposal but yet I was still seeing things like ‘if we lose this then he needs to be sacked for the selection’ as it turns out I think he got most of the changes spot on in Leonard, Iwata at RB, Paik & Beadle. But what did we see in the game? We saw a first half where we were scared to play our game, scared to make a mistake so played it safe, we grew into the first half and the second half was better but it was just a point when in reality we should have had all 3, again.
I then saw the Wagner video on Saturday morning and I have to say I wasn’t in the slightest bit surprised he felt the need to say something. I know people have been saying the “platty plus” lot are shit but tbf I’ve been to ever other away game this season and with the exception of Blackburn the atmospheres have been trash. Do we not sing anymore? I don’t understand why we’ve been so passive on the road this season.
Long and short of it is that we have had a sticky spell but the real frustrating part for me is we should be on 16 points having beaten Wednesday & Wrexham and whilst it’s on the players and management to find solutions to the questions, I do think the fan base have lost its nerve and needs to rediscover it. We had a team play under all sorts of pressure last season and we never turned after a bad result or performance, we need that attitude towards the team and manager back after the international break and I am certain we will see a much more consistent and positive team!
