Walton Goggins pays Tribute to Late 'Vice Principals' Co-Star

Goggins Pays Tribute to 'One of the Best'

Gregory’s ex-husband, Chester Gregory, confirmed his wife’s passing in a Saturday Instagram post. Her cause of death was not immediately available. On Sunday, Goggins took to his Instagram page to pay tribute to Gregory, with whom he starred alongside Danny McBride in HBO’s black comedy Vice Principals (2016–17). Gregory played Dr. Belinda Brown, a highly educated woman who—after taking a principal position at North Jackson High—must contend with two under-educated, wannabe-authoritarian vice principals played by Goggins and Danny McBride.

“We lost one of the best yesterday…one of the best I’ve ever worked with,” Goggins wrote. “Kimberly Hébert Gregory. I had the honor…the good fortune of getting to know, getting to spend months working with this Queen on Vice Principals. She made me laugh like no other. A professional’s professional. A gatdamn SOPRANO that never missed a note. You will be missed my friend. As much as you know.”

Fellow Vice Principals co-star Busy Phillips, who played Gale Liptrapp, the ex-wife of McBride’s character, likewise shared her dismay at the news. “I’m devastated to hear this. She was a light and a force,” the Dawson’s Creek alum wrote. “She will be missed.”

Hébert’s former husband announced her passing on Oct. 4. Kimberly Hébert Gregory, you were brilliance embodied,” Chester Gregory wrote. “A Black woman whose mind lit every room, whose presence carried both fire and grace, you taught us lessons in courage, in artistry, in resilience, and in how to keep showing up, even when life demanded more than its share. So much more than [my] ex-wife, you were my friend. Our son, the song we wrote together, is the living echo of your light. Through him, your brilliance will never fade. Through him, your laughter will always resound.”
