Demi Moore Says Tom Cruise Seemed 'Quite Embarrassed' About Her Pregnancy While Filming A Few Good Men
Demi Moore says Tom Cruise might have felt a little awkward around her while they were preparing to film A Few Good Men back in 1992.
The 62-year-old star of The Substance took part in a Q&A with Jia Tolentino at the New Yorker Festival on October 25 (via People), where she reflected on working with Tom, 63, while she was eight months pregnant with her daughter Scout Willis.

Demi explained that they had begun early table reads, and she started to “think Tom was quite embarrassed” about her pregnancy. “I actually felt okay about it. I was moving around, though, right? But I could tell he felt that it was a bit awkward.”
She remembered challenging the idea that a woman couldn’t balance motherhood and major acting responsibilities. “It’s one of the many things, for me, that I just felt didn’t make sense. And so I challenged that to say, you know, ‘Why not? Why can’t you have both?’ But with that, I think, came a lot of pressure I put on myself to, in a sense, prove that it was possible.”
Demi, who portrayed Lieutenant Commander Joanne Galloway in the film, added that working and parenting at the same time “wasn’t as supported as it is today,” recalling moments of juggling breastfeeding with blocking and rehearsing.
She said the desire to prove herself turned her into “a bit of an overachiever,” even feeling pressure to slim down before giving birth.
“I was going to be in a military uniform, and probably overly anticipated and started working out and trying to get in shape even before she was born,” she shared.
Demi revealed she kept up a very active routine until her due date. “I did a two-and-a-half-hour hike the day my water broke. I did a 24-mile bike ride, and then was dancing at a reggae club — hence why she came two-and-a-half weeks early.”
Demi was chosen as one of Glamour’s 2025 Women of the Year, find out who else was named an honoree!
