White House not grand enough for Trump — but he has huge plans to change that: biographer

President Donald Trump has even larger ambitions for his White House renovation project than he has revealed publicly, according to his biographer.

Journalist Michael Wolff, who has written four books about Trump, discussed the president's ambitions for the ballroom renovation project, that involves demolishing the East Wing, on a new episode of the "Inside Trump's Head" podcast on The Daily Beast.

Wolff argued that Trump may also be seeking to demolish and rebuild the West Wing because it doesn't comport with Trump's vision of himself.

"And so for this figure, Trump, a figure of nothing so much as pure grandiosity, it must feel dispiriting to show up there every day," Wolff said. "Even the Oval Office is small."

"The West Wing is dumpy; many of the offices are a pure functional government feel," Wolff said. "Nothing to suggest, as Trump obviously wants it to be suggested, that he is the grandest, most powerful, historical being of all time."

"So why not? Why not just say, 'Well, we're going to tear this down. We have corporate contributors. We're going to build the West Wing as it should look.' Or as it no doubt looks in his head."

"Perhaps he can have a throne behind the Resolute Desk," the Daily Beast's chief content officer Joanna Coles said.

"It's one of those things that we would think that he could never do. He would never do that," Wolff continued. "There are some things that are certainly a step too far. But we would have said that last week about the East Wing itself."
