Shafali Verma scripts history! Becomes the first-ever Indian Women to achieve this feat in an ODI World Cup final

Shafali Verma created history as she registered the highest score by an Indian in a Women’s ODI World Cup final, showcasing her brilliance with the bat during the 2025 summit clash against South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.

Her exceptional knock not only powered India to a strong position but also highlighted her maturity and dominance on the grandest stage of women’s cricket.

However, apart from that Shafali Verma also surpassed her previous highest individual score in ODIs, which was 71 not out, achieved during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2022 marking her first half-century in the format since then.

The 21-year-old batter played a brilliant knock of 87 runs off 78 balls, hitting seven fours and two sixes, and in the process, surpassed Poonam Raut’s 86 from the 2017 final against England now the highest score by an Indian in a Women’s ODI World Cup final.

Shafali was included in India’s World Cup squad as a replacement for Pratika Rawal, who suffered an injury during the Women in Blue’s final league match against Bangladesh.
