U.S. Says Afghan National Arrested Over Texas Bomb Threat

U.S. authorities say an Afghan national has been arrested in Texas after allegedly threatening online to build a bomb targeting the Fort Worth area.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said an Afghan national, Mohammad Dawood Alkozai, has been arrested in Texas on charges of making a bomb threat after he allegedly posted a TikTok video claiming he was building an explosive device for use in the Fort Worth area.

According to court documents, Alkozai faces a state-level “terroristic threat” charge. Fox News reported he entered the United States under President Joe Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome, the program created after the 2021 U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan to resettle Afghan evacuees.

The case comes as U.S. authorities reassess Afghan immigration processing following a lethal shooting in Washington, where Rahmanullah Lakhanwal, also resettled under the same program, was accused of killing a National Guard member and critically injuring another.

Homeland Security officials said Alkozai was taken into custody on November, 25th, during a coordinated operation involving the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. He arrived in the U.S. in September 2022 and holds permanent resident status.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a detainer instructing local police not to release Alkozai after his criminal proceedings so federal officers can review his immigration status and consider possible removal.

The arrests have reignited political tensions over migration. President Donald Trump called immigration “the greatest destroyer of America,” saying he would halt arrivals from “all third world countries” if elected. Critics say the incidents underscore gaps in vetting, while supporters of the resettlement effort warn against linking isolated crimes to an entire refugee population.
