Also new to the cast are On My Block‘s Brett Gray and The Old Man‘s EJ Bonilla, who all join previously announced Jermaine Fowler.
The upcoming movie is based on the MGM movies, which starred Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer, among others.
The series will center on Jermaine‘s “Travis “Trav” Porter, who endeavors to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, a legendary barber at the iconic ‘Calvin’s’ barbershop in Chicago. And while the barbers are new, the shop remains just as lively, the customers just as argumentative, and the fades are still the dopest in the city — because at Calvin’s, the community comes together for way more than just a haircut.”
Punkie is set to play Stella, “a no-nonsense barber who is skeptical of Travis’ return.”
Roy will star as Robert, “an ex con-turned-barber.”
Brett stars as “flamboyant and outspoken Kofi,” and EJ is set to play Fernan, “a Bronx-born barber who becomes an ally to Travis.”
The co-writer of the original Barbershop movie, Marshall Todd, serves as co-showrunner, writer and executive producer on the series with Max Searle. Kevin Hart is also producing through his Hartbeat production company.
