Stranger Things Is Still That Popular
Stranger Things hasn’t been on the air since before the 2022 midterms, but over three years between the show’s fourth-season finale and fifth-season premiere did nothing to dent viewership. Volume one of Stranger Things’s fifth and final season debuted with 59.6 million worldwide views in its first five days on the streamer, per Netflix. That makes it the second-most-watched premiere for a Netflix series ever, behind Squid Game season two, and the most-watched English-language series. It surpassed Wednesday season one, which previously held the English-language record from its November 2022 debut to 50.1 million views in its first four days. Stranger Things got a four-episode drop on Wednesday, November 26, benefiting from one more day of viewership than the typical Thursday premiere. Still, Wednesday debuted with a full season, and this was just the beginning for Vecna and foes.
“The sheer number of fans who have already watched Volume 1 is staggering — the response has been more than we ever could have dreamed,” the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, said in a statement. “The show is now a decade old, and seeing the fanbase not only endure but continue to grow has been incredibly rewarding for us, the actors, and the thousands of artists who helped bring this story to life. We truly cannot thank everyone enough, and we are beyond excited to share Volume 2 — there’s so much more to come!”
Volume 2, featuring the next three episodes, will come out on Christmas Day. Then the finale will debut on Netflix and in theaters on New Year’s Eve at 8 p.m. ET. The finale, which will be two hours and five minutes long, will simultaneously air in 500 select theaters in the U.S. and Canada. Stranger Things will go out with a bang and a ball drop.
