The reaction to Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2026 has definitely been… interesting.

The company has declared that ‘Cloud Dancer’, which is basically a milky shade of white, is the hue that will define the zeitgeist in the year ahead. 

It’s not uncommon for the Pantone Colour of the Year to be divisive, but this year’s discourse has been something else. Some have accused the choice of being boring, while others have questioned whether it’s technically even a colour.

Others have wondered whether it’s the best idea to say that white is going to be the defining colour of 2026 when 2025 has been so politically charged.

If you, for whatever reason, aren’t that into Cloud Dancer, Etsy has a very different Colour of the Year prediction: Patina Blue.

Patina is the green, blue, and sometimes brown layer that forms on certain metals with time as they age. 

According to Etsy, searches for ‘blue copper’ are three times higher year on year, which signals a widening interest in “lived-in aesthetics” over and above shiny perfection.
