In “Stick to sound savings, TPS,” on Sunday, The Blade editorial applauds the proposed abolishment of the Toledo Pubic Schools-Toledo Federation of Teachers peer evaluation program, a process in which experienced accomplished teachers mentor and evaluate the performance of first-year intern teachers and experienced teachers who are deficient in their performance. The Toledo Plan is jointly administered by the Toledo Federation of Teachers and the administration of the Toledo Public Schools. It was agreed to during 1981 negotiations when the administration’s chief negotiator was a lawyer who knew that establishment and enforcement of standards is fundamental to a profession, similar to medicine and law.
