'The Pitt' Isn’t the Only Medical Show Rolling Out a New Season in the New Year

0

With 2026 officially here, much attention has been paid to arguably HBO Max’s best original series, The Pitt, and rightfully so. After an award-winning debut season that earned the applause of both critics and fans, Season 2 premiered on January 8. If the already "Certified Fresh" score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes is any indication, all of the new episodes are sure to live up to the hype and anticipation. However, as much spotlight is being shone on The Pitt, it’s easy to forget there are two brand-new medical shows entering the chat. Well, one new show with some notoriety across the pond, and one with lots of history and a baked-in millennial fanbase.

In case you missed it, the Josh Charles-led series Best Medicine previewed on Fox on January 4, before airing in its regular timeslot on January 6. Based on the popular British sensation Doc Martin, the new dramedy follows Dr. Martin Best (Charles), who leaves his illustrious career as a surgeon in Boston to become a general practitioner in the small fishing village where he spent his summers as a kid. Unfortunately, as an adult, his personality doesn’t quite mesh with the other residents, despite often being dragged into the middle of their chaos.

As far as critics take on the show, it has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 70% as of publication. So, while it’s not gaining the critical acclaim of The Pitt, numbers should sway you to at least check out the series for yourself and decide if you want to keep watching. The premiere episode is currently available to stream on Hulu and Disney+

'Scrubs' Is Back

In a moment to make many millennials feel "aged," Scrubs first premiered in 2001, making the medical comedy 25 years old. It was a hit the moment it aired, amassing millions of fans, 17 Emmy nominations, and two Emmy wins. Now, after airing its last episode back in 2010, the show has officially been revived with J.D. (Zach Braff) and Turk (Donald Faison) back for more of their one-of-a-kind hospital antics. Not only that, but several members of the original cast are also returning. Here’s a synopsis from ABC of what fans can expect with the new episodes:

"JD and Turk scrub in together for the first time in a long time: Medicine has changed; interns have changed; but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way."

It’s too early to tell if the new iteration of Scrubs will be able to live up to its former glory, but you’ll be able to see for yourself on ABC on February 25, the next day on Hulu and Disney+.
