USA cricketers denied… ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 participation in serious doubt

0

USA cricketers denied Indian visa have put their T20 World Cup participation in serious doubt, with four Pakistani-origin players unable to travel to India for the tournament. The tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Ali Khan confirms visa denial

One of the affected players, USA fast bowler Ali Khan, confirmed the development while speaking to Telecom Asia Sport. He said that he and three other players were unable to secure Indian visas for the tournament.

“Yes, it is true that three Pakistani-origin players are denied an Indian visa, which means we are unable to feature in the Twenty20 World Cup,” Ali Khan said in a video message to www.telecomasia.net.

According to the report, the other three players named in the 20-member USA squad who have been denied visas are Shayan Jahangir, Mohammad Mohsin, and Ehsan Adil. All three players were born in Pakistan but later became citizens of the United States.

Indian visa rules behind the issue

As per India’s visa regulations, individuals born in Pakistan are required to apply for an Indian visa using their Pakistani passport, regardless of their current nationality. This rule is believed to be the main reason behind the visa denial.

Multiple Countries could be impacted

The issue is not limited to the USA team alone. The report claims that players of Pakistani origin from several other countries could also be affected, including teams from the UAE, Oman, Nepal, Canada, England, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands.

Background of the affected players

Ehsan Adil was born in Sheikhupura and previously represented Pakistan in three Tests and six ODIs between 2013 and 2015. He moved to the United States four years ago and currently plays for Kingsmen USA. Ali Khan was born in Attock in Punjab, Shayan Jahangir in Karachi, and Mohammad Mohsin in Mingora in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Visa issues have affected players in the past

The report also highlighted that Pakistani-origin players have faced similar visa problems in the past. In 2019, brothers Sikander and Saqib Zulfiqar were denied Indian visas, while Shiraz Ahmed faced delays ahead of the 2023 World Cup. Australia opener Usman Khawaja in 2017 and England spinners Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir in 2024 have also encountered visa-related issues.

ICC monitoring the situation

Sources in the International Cricket Council have said that the governing body is assisting teams with visa-related processes. However, the latest developments have increased the ICC’s workload as the T20 World Cup approaches.
