Conor Gallagher told he has already made a mistake after £35m Tottenham transfer

Simon Jordan has weighed in on the impact he expects Conor Gallagher to have on the Tottenham Hotspur team.

Gallagher has been announced as Tottenham’s first signing of the January window, and Spurs fans will be hoping that he is the first of many.

The midfielder admitted he is over the moon to be a Spurs player and expressed his desire to achieve big things at N17.

The 25-year-old admitted that he is raring to go after returning to the Premier League after an 18-month stint in Spain, and confirmed that he is fit and available to feature against West Ham.

Simon Jordan believes Conor Gallagher only marginally improves Tottenham

Simon Jordan is not particularly excited by Tottenham’s capture of the former Chelsea midfielder.

He conceded that Gallagher does make Spurs marginally better, but he insisted that the midfielder is not the sort of signing that is going to take the Lilywhites to the level they want to get to.

When asked about Tottenham’s latest addition, the former Crystal Palace owner told TalkSPORT: “It’s okay, isn’t it? I mean, a lot of noise was made about him departing from Chelsea because he was one of theirs and came out of the youth set-up, while there were other big-name players being signed for big dough, and Conor Gallagher was being shoved out of the door.

“I think he’s okay. I think he had a fabulous time [on loan] at Palace when they got a real lift from his energy. Do I think he’s a world-beater? No. Do I think he makes Spurs better? Marginally. Are these the type of signings that are going to catapult Spurs to the dizzy heights? No.”

Jordan suggests Gallagher would have been better off at Aston Villa

Spurs secured Gallagher from under Aston Villa’s noses despite the Midlands side agreeing personal terms with the player first.

Jordan suggested a switch to Villa Park would have been much better for the midfielder, given how far ahead of Spurs Unai Emery’s men are at the moment.

The pundit added: “Would it have been a better move to go to Villa? Probably. And this is one of the challenges facing Unai Emery because they have huge financial losses and have already been caught up in PSR.

“They’ve already made a deal with UEFA, so Villa have got difficulties because they can’t compete, and this is the unfairness of it all. But I think he [Gallagher] would have been better off at Villa.

“I think he would have done better. Villa are in the ascendancy and are challenging to be inside the top four, and Tottenham are challenging to keep their manager.”
