This Aftermarket Suspension Upgrade Could Unlock the Amflow PL’s Full Potential

0

Cascade Components has delivered what could be the best upgrade for the Amflow PL. For $257 USD, Amflow owners can now increase rear travel to 160mm and improve suspension performance, all without tweaking the geometry. With 10mm more rear wheel travel and a more supple rear end, the Amflow PL Link from Cascade Components could make one of the best e-mountain bikes on the market even better.

The Amflow PL is undoubtedly one of the most talked about eMTBs of the last few years, thanks to its Avinox motor and battery system and well-considered geometry. Although this is the first and only model from the young brand, the Amflow PL checks a ton of boxes for a full-power eMTB. The bike is not without its imperfections, and I often wish for a little more downhill capability, as do many other Amflow owners. The 160mm front and 150mm rear travel are great for most trails, but a more progressive leverage curve and a touch more rear wheel travel with a 170mm fork would make the Amflow ready to eat just about everything - and now that wish has been granted.

The stock Amflow link

Deven McCoy

This link is intended to be used ONLY in the 27.5 flip chip setting to preserve the stock geometry, but that doesn't mean you need to use a 27.5 wheel, and riders can still use a 29-inch wheel in this setting, as the pinch point is not at the tire. The flip-chip must be set to 27.5 to keep the geo where it should be. I don't know why you would want to keep the flip chip in the 29-setting, but if you do, a reduced shock stroke would be required to keep geo numbers where they should be.

Changing the progression from 21% to 27% might not seem like a lot on paper, but a 6% increase is quite a noticeable amount on trail. Considering that the stock 21% progression already feels pretty good, this link should breathe new life into Amflow's downhill capabilities. With more travel, better small-bump sensitivity, mid-stroke suppleness, and better bottom-out resistance, pairing this link with a 170mm fork would make the Amflow an absolute demon on the steeps.
