Pakistan, UK Special Envoys Discuss Afghanistan, Regional Security

0

Pakistan and UK special representatives met to discuss cross-border terrorism and regional security, emphasizing cooperation to stabilize Afghanistan and neighboring areas.

Pakistan’s special envoy, Mohammad Sadiq, and the UK’s Richard Lindsay held talks on Tuesday regarding Afghanistan’s security situation and regional stability.

Sadiq posted on X that the discussions focused primarily on the immediate threats posed by cross-border terrorist attacks originating from Afghanistan.

Pakistani officials have repeatedly expressed concerns that terrorist groups are using Afghanistan territory to carry out attacks inside Pakistan, complicating bilateral relations.

Tensions over security and border management have led to repeated clashes in recent years, including a border closure lasting over three months, halting trade and movement.

During the meeting, both representatives emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination and cooperation to address shared security concerns and promote regional stability.

Pakistan has stated that normalizing ties with the Taliban depends on preventing cross-border attacks, while Afghan Taliban deny permitting any group to operate against Pakistan.

The talks underscore the complex security dynamics in the region, highlighting the need for sustained dialogue and joint efforts to reduce tensions and restore stability.
