Education Minister Bright Msaka commends NCHE for upholding quality in higher education
Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Bright Msaka, has commended the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) for its efforts to uphold high standards and ensure quality in higher education.
The minister made the remarks on Tuesday in Lilongwe during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed NCHE Council.
He emphasised that the Ministry, through NCHE, is effectively fulfilling its mandate to advance a transformative higher education agenda that makes graduates competitive both locally and globally, while ensuring that programmes offered are relevant and aligned with the government’s development priorities.
The newly appointed Board Chairperson, Professor John Saka, congratulated the minister on his reappointment as Minister of Education, Science and Technology and discussed key issues, mainly concerning regulatory frameworks that previous Councils had agreed to formalise into law to guide the Council’s operations.
Saka, however, noted that the frameworks were not enacted due to challenges arising from staff turnover in the offices expected to provide the necessary support.
The Minister assured the Council that the staff turnover challenges would be addressed and that the regulations would be progressed for presentation to Parliament, where they would be debated by members and, ideally, passed into law
