Nuclear bunker crashes onto beach below in Tunstall after succumbing to coastal erosion

For nearly 70 decades it has stood as a monitoring post in the event of nuclear war.

Now this nuclear bunker is at the mercy of the sea after finally crashing into the beach below in Tunstall, East Yorkshire.

Images and footage released earlier this month captured the Cold War-era building teetering perilously on the eroding cliff.

It’s believed the bunker, which was known as the Tunstall ROC (Royal Observer Cops) Post, finally gave way to the elements some time on Friday.

The building appears to be still intact while lying at the foot of the cliff.

The Environment Agency says the area around Tunstall has some of the fastest eroding coastline in the UK.

YouTuber Davey Robinson and his partner Tracy Charlon had been filming the impact of erosion in the area and the fate of the bunker.

Mr Robinson said: ‘The story of it just captured people’s hearts.’

Their daily videos were dubbed ‘bunker watch’ and were viewed thousands of times.

According to Subterranea Britannica, the spotting station was closed in 1991.
