Special film screenings for Black History Month

• The San Rafael Public Library presents a film series for Black History Month. A screening of “The Lake Merritt Monster” for teens and tweens, followed by a discussion with director Benjamin Mulholland, is at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 2. “Black Feminist,” a documentary by Zanah Thirus, will be shown at 6 p.m. Feb. 18. “The Inquisitor,” a film about pioneering Texas politician Barbara Jordan, will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28. All screenings are at the Downtown San Rafael Library at 1100 E St. in San Rafael. Admission is free. Go to srpubliclibrary.org.

• The Smith Rafael Film Center presents special screenings for Black History Month at 11 a.m. Saturdays in February. “I Am Not Your Negro,” Raoul Peck’s acclaimed 2016 documentary about writer and activist James Baldwin, will be shown on Feb. 7. “The Killing Floor,” Bill Duke’s 1984 drama about organized labor in Chicago in the 1910s, will be shown on Feb. 14. “Finally Got the News,” a 1970 documentary about Detroit’s League of Revolutionary Black Workers labor union, will be shown on Feb. 21. “Farming While Black,” a 2023 documentary about Black farmers in America, will be shown on Feb. 28. All screenings are at the movie theater at 1118 Fourth St. in San Rafael. Admission is $12.25 per screening. Go to rafaelfilm.cafilm.org.
