Train derails in south London forcing multiple rail firms to cancel services

Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services are all facing major disruption after a train derailed.

The three train operators have issued ‘do not travel’ warnings, with cancellations and delays of up to an hour expected until the end of the day.

They advised commuters that there is no ‘guarantee’ they’ll be able to reach their destinations today.

Large read signs have appeared on display boards in London Victoria, urging people to hop on buses to get to where they need to go instead.

A train derailed this morning near Selhurst Depot, blocking the lines towards Norwood Junction and London Bridge.

No one was injured.

A fault with the signalling system between Norwood Junction and London Blackfriars is also behind today’s delays.

National Rail added that the London Overground has been impacted, with delays between Highbury & Islington and West Croydon expected until the end of the day.

Trains aren’t running at all on the Windrush Line between Sydenham and West Croydon.

Clapham Junction, Crystal Palace and New Cross services will run as scheduled.

Impacted Southern services include:

  • Epsom to London Bridge services suspended
  • Tattenham Corner/Caterham to London Bridge services diverted via an alternative route
  • Uckfield to London Bridge – a reduced service

Thameslink said the following services are suspended:

  • London Bridge to East Grinstead
  • Brighton to Cambridge
  • Bedford to Three Bridges

All other Thameslink trains running through London Bridge are expected to be delayed – commuters should add an extra hour to their journeys.
