Nick Jonas Details Daughter Malti's Terrifying Premature Birth, Reveals She Need to Be Resuscitated

Nick Jonas is opening up about his and wife Priyanka Chopra‘s daughter Malti‘s terrifying premature birth.

The 33-year-old Jonas Brothers singer and the 43-year-old Citadel actress actress welcomed their daughter in January 2022 via surrogate.

While they’ve shared details about Malti‘s premature birth in the past, Nick is now sharing terrifying new information about her birth, revealing that she had to be resuscitated.

Keep reading to find out more…“She came to the world under sort of very intense circumstances, which I’ve not really talked about ever,” Nick shared in a February 4 interview on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast. “But we were expecting her to arrive in April of the year she was born and we get a call that it’s gonna be sooner. So, we basically went into action and she was born via surrogate.”

“We got to the hospital, and she came out, she was one pound, 11 ounces,” he recalled. “And purple basically. They—these angels at the NICU, kind of resuscitated her in that moment and got her taken care of really quickly and intubated and everything else.”

Nick said that he and Priyanka traded 12-hour shifts at the hospital where Malti spent the first three months of her life receiving around the clock care and treatment before luckily making a full recovery.

“But she fought every day for three and a half months,” Nick said. “And, you know, slowly started to gain some weight. And after six blood transfusions, she was doing great and we got to take her home.”

Now, four years later, Nick admitted that he still has memories of Malti‘s time in the hospital.

“I could still sort of like, smell it,” he said. “There’s always visceral things. It was both comforting and frightening to be there every day, and to see sort of other families going through similar situations.”

He also said that his daughter still exhibits the same strength she showed during that time.

“I feel like she knows how she entered the world and what that first chapter of her life was like,” Nick said. “And so every day is a gift, and you can actually feel it on her in the way that she behaves and how exciting everything is.”

“I don’t know how much she remembers,” he continued. “Probably nothing, spiritually I believe that there’s gratitude in her and that she’s incredible.”

He added that seeing Malti live out her toddler years has been an emotional blessing for their family.

“Our daughter’s incredible, she’s just, she’s magic in every sense of the world,” Nick said through tears. “She just turned four a couple weeks ago. It blows my mind, I look at her and I can see her future. I just know she’s going to do amazing things, and I’m awestruck that I get to experience her magic. She’s just perfect in every way.”
