'I would not have done it' - Thomas Frank reveals 'internal' Tottenham talks after Cristian Romero outburst

Thomas Frank has now responded to Cristian Romero’s social media post amid Tottenham Hotspur transfer frustrations.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you must have read about Cristian Romero’s message that came right after the winter transfer window.

The Spurs captain cut a frustrated figure, labelling Spurs’ squad issues as “disgraceful”, given the injury crisis they were dealing with. Tottenham had just 11 fit senior first-team players in their last outing against Manchester City.

Romero wrote on social media: “Great effort from all my teammates yesterday. They were incredible. I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well. Especially as we only had 11 players available. Unbelievable but true and disgraceful.

“We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us.”

The message from the Argentine has been interpreted by some Spurs fans as a dig at the club’s owners for not investing significantly in the squad during the winter window.

However, Thomas Frank has now addressed Romero’s comments, offering his perspective when speaking to football.london.

Commenting on Romero’s post Frank was careful to stress the defender’s personality while distancing himself from the method of communication.

He said: “I think if you want to know what he meant, you have to ask him, that’s the right way to answer that question. Cuti is a very passionate person and leaves everything on the pitch. He wants to win every time and there can be an outburst. It is something we have dealt with and dealt with internally.

“There is a way of doing things. He has been very good at doing things. I would not have done it. This is my message.

“The beauty of written text is that you can read into it, and the only person who knows what it meant was Cuti. I think it shows that Cuti is extremely passionate. He wants to do everything he can with his teammates to achieve great things.”

Why Romero continues to take aim at the Spurs hierarchy

Indeed, Romero is one passionate player, and these recent comments are far from the only time he has seemingly taken shots at the Tottenham hierarchy.

His comments, however, have not gone down well with everyone in the footballing world, with Simon Jordan openly criticising Romero for his outburst.

Meanwhile, some of Romero’s Spurs teammates have ‘liked’ his social media post. Whether this was in agreement with the lack of January investment, or another part of his message, we may never know.

One source even suggested that Romero’s outburst could have stemmed from some broken promises.
