Cris Collinsworth Admits He'll Probably Mention Patrick Mahomes During Super Bowl Broadcast. Why That Matters
Cris Collinsworth will be one half of NBC's Emmy Award-winning broadcast team for Super Bowl 60, sitting alongside veteran play-by-play voice of Sunday Night Football, Mike Tirico.
For NFL fans who also enjoy dabbling into gambling at times, the Super Bowl typically serves as one of the funnest times to drop a wager or two simply because of the lengthy list of prop bets that lean towards fun far more than any given NFL regular season game, or playoff game for that matter.
With the known presence of Collinsworth and his quite noticeable, frequent tendency to reference Patrick Mahomes — even when the Chiefs' star quarterback is nowhere to be found on the field — it's hardly surprising that there's a prop bet out there on whether or not the descriptive announcer will mention the three-time Super Bowl champion.
What Did Cris Collinsworth Say About the Patrick Mahomes Prop Bet?
So what was Collinsworth's reaction to the Mahomes' prop bet news?
To no surprise, it was downright entertaining.
"I probably will say Patrick Mahomes' name [during Super Bowl 60] and I have no idea why," Collinsworth explained. "But now that you've planted it [the prop bet] in my head I assume you bet the over so you're trying to get me to do that. I have no idea or no plans of what I'm going to do but I've read those things. You can't help but, right? People put them in front of your face all the time."
@koacolorado You can now blame AROD if Cris Collinsworth mentions Mahomes in the big game ???? ????️ “I probably will say Patrick Mahomes’ name and I have no idea why. Now that you planted it in my head …” ???? #KOASuperWeek #biggame #patriots #seahawks #mahomes

Collinsworth flat-out owning up to the fact that he "probably will say Patrick Mahomes' name" during the Super Bowl 60 broadcast, in addition to not knowing why he would do such a thing, is an outstanding slice of self-awareness that quickly leads to a "will he or won't he" type of scenario leading up to the game.
What Are the Chances Cris Collinsworth Mentions Patrick Mahomes During Super Bowl 60?
Officially, as of now at least, there's a 55% chance that Collinsworth will indeed mention Mahomes during Super Bowl 60.
Considering the announcer has acknowledged his awareness of the prop bet going around, all sorts of shifts are likely to occur leading up to Sunday's Seahawks-Patriots showdown at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
But is that a good thing or a bad thing?
Honestly, it might not matter.
Cris Collinsworth Loves Patrick Mahomes and Has Not Been Afraid to Say It
Collinsworth has been waving the Mahomes flag for years and has certainly sounded like someone who does not care if he continues to do so.
"Honestly, I don't care if anyone thinks I like Patrick Mahomes, because I do," said Collinsworth. "I do like the guy. He's been one of the most phenomenal players we've seen in the league for a long, long time."
There's already some hard evidence out there that would lean heavily in favor of that 55%, who appear to be banking on a Mahomes mention.
And, really, that percentage feels like a bit of an understatement.
In week 17, Collinsworth was unable to appreciate some true wizardry from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy without bringing up Mahomes.
To his credit, though, he delivered his take in hilarious, self-aware fashion.

"I mean, if this were Patrick Mahomes, we'd be screaming 'oh Patrick Mahomes!' I know I would be screaming it," Collinsworth hilariously said after Purdy's dynamic, tricky footwork that led to a touchdown pass.
As for an official mention of Mahomes during Super Bowl 60, given that Collinsworth is painfully aware of the prop bet, it would seem to lean heavily in one direction.
As for what that direction is, however, Collinsworth is right up there with the current betting odds in terms of complete unpredictability, so we have essentially have no choice but to hurry up and wait.
