Carrick delivers injury update on £25m Man Utd star ahead of Tottenham game

0

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has delivered a fresh injury update on Patrick Dorgu ahead of the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford this afternoon.

The Red Devils entertain Spurs in today’s early kick-off and have the opportunity to pick up a fourth straight league win. They will aim to end an eight-match winless streak against them.

Ahead of the encounter, Carrick will be without three United stars including Dorgu, who sustained a hamstring injury during the 3-2 league win over Arsenal at the Emirates last month.

In the second part of the presser, the 44-year-old was asked about the timescale for the Dane’s recovery.

Carrick acknowledged that he can’t put an exact number, but believes the club are working hard to get the versatile star back on the pitch before the end of the ongoing league season.

He said via Manutd.com: “Not exactly. We’re working through it. It’ll definitely be a number of weeks.

“It will be a considerable period of time.

“He’s not going to be back in the next two or three weeks. To be more exact is a little bit difficult, at this moment.

“It could possibly be [10 weeks], we’re working through it.

“Certainly, we’re looking forward to getting him back as quickly as we can and getting on the pitch long before the end of the season.”

Dorgu joined the Red Devils from Lecce in February last year for £25 million. He primarily played as a left wing-back under former head coach Ruben Amorim.

Amorim was critical of the Dane’s poor attacking output on occasions. The Portuguese tactician said he felt anxious whenever Dorgu touched the ball.

There has been a tremendous turnaround since. Dorgu has looked like a different player since moving into a more attacking role, initially under Amorim’s tutelage.

He scored a blinder against Newcastle United on Boxing Day. The Dane bagged another vital goal in the Manchester derby before his long-range stunner at Arsenal.

Dorgu was in the form of his life before the untimely hamstring injury. He could be out for at least two months. If there are no setbacks, he could return by early April.

United will obviously handle him with extra caution. We should get more clarity on Dorgu’s injury situation after the club conduct further medical tests.
