First Look: Renthal Revo-DHC & Revo-TRC Clipless MTB Pedals

0

With the Shimano SPD cleat patent expiring, more brands are tapping into the clipless pedal market with this tried-and-tested design, and Renthal's new Revo-TRC and Revo-DHC are the latest to employ it, but they’ve taken their own approach with a widely adjustable binding, easily servicable internals, and the iconic AluGold finish.

The Renthal Revo-DHC uses what looks to be an offset binding, but the extra-large platform is playing tricks on your eyes. This platform mimics the feel of a flat-pedal, sharing the same profile as the Revo Flat Pedal and features adjustable pins for added foot retention. On the other hand, the Revo-TRC takes a lightweight approach with no pins and a more traditional profile.

Both the Revo-DHC and TRC use Renthal's own binding system, designed to work with SPD-style cleats. The binding features a hinged rear mechanism - much like other SPD pedals on the market - and has chamfered edges to allow for easy entry to the binding. All the Revo pedals share the same internals, with a large Igus bushing and three outboard bearings. This makes them super easy to service and overhaul without proprietary tools. Thankfully, the full-contact seals at the spindle and endcap keep the internals fully protected from the elements, which should mean you need to service these pedals less frequently.

Both pedals are available in anodized black and the signature Renthal AluGold. The Revo-DHC retails for $226.20 USD, while the lighter Revo-TRC retails for $213.52 USD. With a full lineup of flat and clipless pedals now available, Renthal offers high-performance contact points for any riding style.

The Revo-DHC is obviously a downhill-focused pedal, as the name suggests, and although the binding position looks offset in the pedal body, it still maintains the same 55mm offset found on other clipless pedals. Thanks to the extra-large platform, the Revo-DHC allows for maximum pin contact when used with a DH shoe under flex in corners, but without hindering the ability to clip in or unclip.

Revo-TRC

MSRP: $213.52 USD

The Revo-TRC is the lightweight, trail-focused pedal in the Revo range, with a smaller cage surrounding the binding, and no adjustable pins to bite into the sole of the shoe. The Revo-TRC pedal weighs just 394 grams thanks to its 6061-alloy cage and steel spindle.
